Fitting In

You have to study the culture while also contributing to the culture at the same time.

It helps to:

• Take physical notes on physical paper. Don’t leave it to typing on the computer. Writing engraves things on your brain.
• Diagram relationships between people. Clump them into hierarchies and networks. Focus on who you will be working most closely with.
• Take steps to be immediately helpful but not in a spotlight-grabbing sort of way.
