Speaking at TPUSA, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, a person who I deeply, deeply admire and I hope that one day she runs for president. She said something that I disagree with. She said that the threat we face is Islamism. Now, I’m not going to dispute that. I’m not going to dispute that radical Islam is a threat. This is not the same as Muslims.
This is the ideology of basically tyranny. What I want to suggest is that we go back and we look at the history behind Islamism, this radicalism. And I want to suggest to you that there are two factors which led to this.
The first is colonialism. Colonialism caused a backlash and Muslims decided that they needed to fight back and become more nationalist to resist colonialism.
The second is the modern spy state, which is that Britain and the United States leveraged and used the identity issues that Muslims were feeling to lasso them up to get them to fight the Soviets. So in other words, we created this monster over many, years. We used this monster. And now we are blaming the monster that we ourselves created. And I’m not saying anything new here. I believe Hillary Clinton said it. um I don’t like her. I don’t like her corruption. But you have to admit that she’s a very astute politician, a very smart person. So Hillary Clinton herself said it. So the question is, what do we do about it? And I think that the answer is not so easy.
I definitely do not think that the answer is to declare ourselves a Christian nation and fight the Muslims. That is not the way, that is just going to make things much, much worse, actually. What I think what we ought to do is go back to the constitution, go back to the separation of church and state, go back to the idea that if you believe in what this country is about, and you are loyal to this country and you serve this country, then you are one of us. And we are truly blind to your background. We are an open tent and not start pitting religions against each other. Very wrong.
