🕑 January 23, 2026 | 1:00 PM
‼️ U.S. naval and air posture near Iran: The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group has moved into the eastern Arabian Sea and is preparing to enter the Gulf of Oman, placing U.S. naval airpower within direct strike range of Iran. Carrier-based F-35C Lightning II and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft, supported by aerial refueling, are assessed as able to reach deep into Iranian territory, including nuclear and missile-related sites.
The carrier is assessed to be operating roughly 600–1,600 miles from Tehran. The broader U.S. naval posture under U.S. Central Command and European Command includes Tomahawk-capable destroyers USS Mitscher, McFaul, Oscar Austin, Roosevelt, Bulkeley, and Paul Ignatius, and submarines USS South Dakota and USS Georgia, with combined Tomahawk capacity estimated at 358 missiles, rising to approximately 454 when including the Abraham Lincoln strike group.
The carrier group includes USS Abraham Lincoln with escort destroyers USS Frank E. Petersen, USS Spruance, and USS Michael Murphy, and operates nine embarked squadrons. Additional U.S. naval forces in the region include USS Mount Whitney, USS Lewis B. Puller, USS Tulsa, USS Canberra, USS Santa Barbara, multiple logistics vessels, and deployed U.S. Coast Guard cutters supporting command-and-control, expeditionary operations, sustained presence, and maritime security.
On the airpower front, the U.S. has two F-35 squadrons, three F-15E squadrons, one F-16 squadron, and one A-10 squadron positioned on the ground in the region. These are supported by rotational intelligence, refueling, and logistics assets including P-8A Poseidon, MQ-4C Triton, C-17A Globemaster, KC-135, KC-46A, and KC-130J, enabling persistent surveillance and sustained operations.
Separately, a U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle departed RAF Lakenheath today as part of ongoing CORONET movements, supported by a KC-135 Stratotanker. The sortie is assessed as part of continued U.S. Air Force repositioning tied to Middle East operational readiness.
🛡️ Israel extends reserve call-up: The Israeli government is expected to approve the call-up of 280,000 reserve forces through March 2026. The decision is tied to IDF expectations that large-scale troop deployments on multiple fronts will continue.
⚠️ President Trump statement: President Trump returned to the United States and to the White House after stepping off Air Force One. He posted tonight again that “help is on the way for the people of Iran”. >>
