Recently the “agunah advocate” Adina Sash brought forward Lonna Kin as an example of a sad agunah case. Because so many people automatically believe Sash, they don’t realize Kin is anything but a victim. Please see the points below. Let me know if I got any of this wrong.
Point #1. Meir Kin Gave the Get
Meir Kin deposited a kosher Get on Lonna’s behalf on March 10, 2008, at the Bais Din Shaar Hamishpot under Rabbi A. Gestetner, a respected and functioning rabbinical court.
Point #2. Lonna Ignored the Get for Seven Years
The Beis Din officially notified Lonna in November 2008 that her Get was ready, yet she chose to ignore it for seven years before finally making contact in August 2015.
Point #3. Lonna Ignored the Requirement to Stop Persecuting Her Ex
Lonna was told in 2015 that she had to leave her husband alone. She didn’t pick up the Gett. She called again in 2018 and received the same clear, unconditional halachic requirements from Rabbi Gestetner:
– Unconditionally void all unjustified seiruvim (rabbinical sanctions) against Meir.
– Restore his full privileges to enter all synagogues.
– Stop the public shaming campaign across the internet, social media, videos, and blogs.
Lonna ignored these instructions and self-delayed her own Get.
Point #4. Ongoing Coercion Invalidates a Get
Due to the aggressive campaign waged against Meir Kin, not only couldn’t Lonna get her Get, but any Get given under conditions of coercion is completely invalid. The ex became a good scalp to use for fundraisers.
Point #5. Lonna Insisted On Civil Court Actions To Cut Meir Off From His Son
Lonna made it her business to remove Meir from her son’s life. She pursued an aggressive lawsuit, including an order of protection. The feminists and the rabbis shielded her from accountability for creating parental alienation.Rabbi Gestetner refused.
Point #6. Lonna Has Received An Annulment From The International Beis Din
You can’t be an Agunah if you have an annulment.
Point #7. Lonna Is Dating (as of 2019!)
This point is self-explanatory.
