In order to understand how severely Adeena Kohn is being exploited by her mother, Rivka Kohn, and Adina Sash, aka “FlatbushGirl,” you have to understand something called postpartum psychosis.
This medical condition is temporary and highly treatable. “Postpartum” means it happens after giving birth. It is rare, affecting 1-2 mothers in every thousand.
With proper care, the vast majority of women make a complete recovery.
Psychosis is a scary word and indeed the condition causes the mother to experience a sudden break from reality. It happened to Adeena and she got help during and after.
But her mother Rivka did more than help out the family. She leveraged the time to recover — generally six to twelve months — to break up the family.
While Adeena was battling to get better, Rivka was getting her hooks into the kids, consulting a divorce lawyer on Rivka’s behalf, and separating the children from the father, quite literally.
When a woman goes through a postpartum crisis of any kind, she needs support and to have any possible stress removed from her life. Rivka weaponized the trust Adeena put in her, and now a horrible and public divorce is the result, because her plan is to take away custody from the father entirely.
To that end, the whole Gett campaign is a trick designed to get the father to sign his kids away. The details are not worth getting into over and over again, except to note that the Beth Din of America was weaponized in this fight, unbeknownst to the BDA, to promote Rivka’s agenda.
The whole Adina Sash “FlatbushGirl” campaign similarly takes advantage of a woman who is trying to function. She doesn’t want or need the spotlight and isn’t going to come out and tell her to stop.
If Sash truly cared about Adeena Kohn she wouldn’t be acting like she represents her cause when she doesn’t. Sash knows that Kohn will keep her mouth shut. It’s a perfect opportunity to build her brand.
I believe the court should intervene in the mother’s obvious mental control over Adeena, a control that is reinforced by financial considerations. I believe that someone should help Adeena who isn’t trying to get something from her.
I pray this family can be saved. It’s a tragedy so far, but one that can be overcome, with HaShem’s help.
It’s never too late.
