One of the great fallacies people bring to the table when thinking about current events is binary thinking. Typically, issues are complex; they are gray.
People are complex. They are gray. Whether we are talking about current events, criminals, or the unpredictable things that happen in life, situations are rarely cut-and-dried. When you approach every situation as if there is only one “good” side and one “bad” side—ignoring all the nuance in between—you distort reality to the point that it ceases to be reality at all. That is the perspective we should strive to bring to current events at all times.
If we insist on viewing the world only through the lenses we are handed, we will always miss the truth. Thank you.
