Mia Lara’s friend went missing at a U. Chicago frat party (Alpha Epsilon Pi) on October 11/12, 2026 (late night). Please note that what follows is based on Lara’s account only, plus news reporting.
Lara and another woman tracked her to a locked bathroom in the basement. There were men outside, cheering and saying, per Lara, “When’s my turn?” “I want to go in there.”
Lara managed to pick the lock. She found her friend inside, on the floor, semi-conscious, unclothed, with Raihaan Khaja, a Purdue University student, holding her wrists, begging for her to “make it stop.” It was obvious she had been raped.
Importantly, it is reported that no fraternity members were involved in the sexual assault.
Lara rescued her friend and forced a path out of there for the three women—screaming her head off. The friend subsequently went to the hospital for a rape kit.
Outside, Lara confronted Khaja, who said “she wanted it.” (He has been banned from campus since). She then chased him down the street while someone jeered and filmed her, yelling “assault” mockingly.
This is that video.
Lara is a true friend. And while fraternities can serve many noble causes, they are also enablers of alcohol- and drug-fueled orgies that may start out consensually but too often end in crimes against women.
In this case the victim kissed the rapist before things turned ugly.
Fraternity parties attract predators. From inside and outside the campus.
There is a lot of informal social pressure at school to behave badly.
Once people are under the influence their judgment disappears and so does their ability to protect themselves.
A useful corrective should be severe academic penalties for consuming alcohol or drugs at any campus-associated event, up to and including expulsion.
