Abu Falah: Another Iranian Op, Fueled By Jewish Patsies

On October 16, 2026, an incident occurred in the olive groves near Abu Falah, east of Ramallah, during the annual olive harvest. Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was injured and evacuated by ambulance. What followed was a global narrative — settlers attacked, a journalist was beaten for ten minutes — built on a witness who was a participant, a victim whose numbers never sit still, and a timeline that reads, post by post, like a staged operation documented by the people who staged it.

This essay proceeds in four parts: the timeline; the inconsistencies in the star witness’s story; that witness’s history of bias; and the victim’s bias.

Part I — The Timeline: Could Be an Iran Op

Start from the first known post and walk forward. Who said what, when — and what doesn’t fit. All times Israel time.

8:47 AM — the burning car

WAFA — the Palestinian Authority’s news agency — posts: “Israeli colonists attack olive pickers, set three vehicles ablaze near Turmus Ayya,” with a photo of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.[1] This is Turmus Ayya, a separate village: the day’s first documented settler attack — somewhere else. It becomes the prelude in every later narrative, but no post that morning ties it to Abu Falah. The first Abu Falah-specific post comes 76 minutes later.

10:03 AM — the masked “harvesters”

Elchanan Gruner @ elchanangr (verified): “Dozens of ‘moskim’ [“olive harvesters”] came out of the village with their faces covered, with clubs, throwing stones.” The Hebrew word is harvesters — in scare quotes: fake harvesters. The video’s still frame shows masked figures in dark clothes moving in small clusters along a dirt trail.[2]

This is from the Palestinian village of Burqa in the Binyamin region. Gruner characterized the group as rioters or provocateurs operating under the guise of the annual olive harvest, sharing footage and photo evidence while questioning whether the IDF would make arrests. Located roughly 5 to 6 kilometers east of Ramallah, Burqa lies about 14 to 15 kilometers southwest of Khirbet Abu Falah—another local village in the same regional cluster where concurrent olive-harvest tensions and clashes were reported by both Israeli and Palestinian sources on the same day.

10:19 AM — the cameraman is already filming

Mutasem Elhaut @ mutasem_sqf_elhait — bio: “Field Reporter | Palestine @qudsn,” Quds News Network — posts a reel from Abu Falah: “Violent clashes between settlers and residents of the village of Abu Falah, east of Ramallah, during an attack on olive pickers.”[3]

In other words, by 10:19 the Iranian-aligned outlet’s cameraman is filming fully formed “clashes”.

A Quds-affiliated reporter on scene at 10:19, cameras rolling before the reported attack, was potentially positioned to document a staged incident.

Consider the shape of the morning: a PA news agency announces a provocative act at 8:47 (elsewhere); the massing of masked, armed “harvesters” is on film by 10:03; an Iranian-aligned outlet’s cameraman is filming “clashes” at 10:19; by evening that same outlet has a finished montage asserting 80 settlers, 10 continuous minutes, and occupation forces standing by.[3][15][16] That is not coverage catching up to events. That is documentation running ahead of them — the signature of an operation, not a harvest.

10:36 AM — tear gas

EPA photograph: Palestinians running from tear gas in the Abu Falah groves.[4] So the confrontation is underway by 10:36. Tear gas means security forces dispersing someone —the IDF acting — but against which side? Or both?

10:53 AM — the first settler-attack claim

Jasper Nathaniel (@infinite_jaz), his first post of the day: “American @washingtonpost journalist Heidi Levine was just severely beaten by settlers in Abu Falah. Videos coming in a minute.”[5] The first mention of settlers as attackers anywhere that morning — 50 minutes after masked Palestinians were filmed mobilizing, 34 minutes after the Quds cameraman started filming “clashes.” Pure aftermath; no description of how anything started. The how-it-started arrives two days later.

11:46 AM — “since this morning”

JSR – The Judea & Samaria Situation Room (verified), posting mid-event: “Since this morning, dozens of terrorists carrying fireworks and stones have been leaving the village of Khirbet Abu Falah in convoys, accompanied by Israeli far left activists and foreign journalists. The attached footage shows them ambushing a group of Israelis, throwing stones at them and firing fireworks directly at them, alongside the journalists accompanying them.” Three videos attached.[6] The earliest Israeli-side contemporaneous account — posted while the event was underway, three and a half hours before the council’s retrospective statement. Not an ambush survived; an ambush conducted — “since this morning,” in convoys, with journalists in tow.

Afternoon — the institutions speak

2:42 PM: Israel National News publishes the Binyamin Regional Council’s account. 3:09 PM: the council’s statement — the PA orchestrated the confrontation “under the cover of the olive harvest”; fireworks fired directly at Israelis; stones thrown; journalists positioned behind to film “the deliberate provocation”; Border Police dispersed the clashes.[7] The statement claims the council “warned earlier this morning” — but no warning post exists on its channels; the warning is attested only retrospectively, inside this statement.

3:16–3:18 PM: slingshot footage — a Palestinian firing beside a chatting foreign journalist.[8] 6:28 PM: the Prime Minister’s Office — “masked individuals from both sides throwing objects,” “fireworks being fired at Jewish youths” — initiation explicitly left to investigation.[8] After a day of absolute claims, the government says it doesn’t know who started it. On October 19, police arrested ten suspects across the investigations — arrests, not convictions.[24]

Read the morning as a detective would: PA media announces the atrocity frame at 8:47. This becomes the frame of a journalist-advocate’s story. Masked men mobilize under harvest cover at 10:03, on film. An Iranian-aligned outlet’s cameraman documents “clashes” at 10:19, before any attack is reported. Convoys with fireworks move “since this morning,” per the 11:46 mid-event post. But by evening, the Iranian-aligned outlet has become the widely circulated narrative — 80 settlers, 10 minutes, the press vest, the occupation forces.[1][2][3][6][15][16] Every element of a staged provocation is present: the pretext, the mobilization, the embedded cameras, the instant narrative. Whether Tehran directed it or merely documented it, the timeline could be an Iran op — and no other hypothesis fits the timestamps as well.

Part II — The Inconsistencies: Jasper

Jasper Nathaniel’s October 18 Substack essay, “The Palestinians Who Rescued Heidi Levine,” became the world’s corroboration.[10] His initiation claim, in his own sequence: dawn smoke over Turmus’ayya; settlers on the hill “pulling on masks, picking up clubs, peering down at us through binoculars” (outpost Netzach Shmuel); he and “many other journalists” present because an assault was expected — “It was the reason I, and many other journalists, were there in the first place”; the IDF, though supposedly coordinated with, “was nowhere to be seen”; “about an hour into the harvest, dozens of masked settlers began streaming down the hill”; farmers fled; the shabab “pulled masks over their faces, picked up stones”; “for about ten minutes, a pitched battle raged… the Palestinians were winning. The settlers retreated”; then settlers set trees on fire, a jeep fired tear gas, a pickup with M16s descended, “they opened fire”; everyone ran back; “when we cleared the cloud” settlers were beating Levine; the shabab gave cover and he reached her.

Against the timeline and against itself, the story fails eight ways:

1. The triple reversal: settlers retreat (Palestinians “winning”) → settlers surround Levine and beat her at leisure → “the settlers began retreating” → “the settlers charged again” → Palestinians “had driven them back.” No mechanism for any reversal. A retreating force does not pause to conduct a prolonged beating. They did take her camera and other items.[10]

2. The duration: she told him the beating lasted “several minutes.” Publicly she says ten minutes and “probably 50 times.”[10][11][12] An eyewitness on the ground said “a few seconds.”[13]

3. The masks: his shabab “pulled masks over their faces” — then masked means settler for the rest of the piece.[10]

4. The helper: “I helped Heidi to her feet.” He ignores JSR (settler) footage showing the settlers did that. She calls this “such a lie”; the PMO described it as her “knocked down and immediately helped to her feet.”[8][10]

5. The footnote: “Footage of both sides throwing stones has already circulated widely” — his admission, buried at the bottom, against a piece framed around one-sided aggression.[10]

6. “She was running” — what she told him, matching the flight in the footage (“Run!”), but making her isolation less explicable: running with whom, toward whom, and how did she end up alone among men?[9][10]

7. “It’s a journalist!” — in the key reel, masked men react to discovering the journalist. The men wear black balaclavas, visually identical to the shabab elsewhere in the footage; the voiceover calls them settlers. The video does not resolve who they are; the narration resolves it by assertion.[9][10]

8. The M16 pickup and much else — no other source, including Levine, reports the white pickup with riflemen; the Obed shooting he presents via the Times-photographer version alone against the IDF’s sharp-object claim, though it is genuinely disputed.[10][21]

And the three participant facts, all from his own text: “the shabab were giving us cover” — us, inside the formation; “allowing me to run ahead and reach her” and “I helped Heidi to her feet” — first to her side, the arms in the footage; “It was the reason I, and many other journalists, were there in the first place” — present expecting the confrontation he reported as news.[10] A witness in that position cannot corroborate anything.

Part III — Jasper: A History of Bias

Nathaniel is a Jewish American independent journalist publishing through the Substack Infinite Jaz. He graduated college in 2010, spent roughly a decade in technology startups, enrolled in NYU’s journalism school in 2023, and first traveled to the West Bank in January 2024. He built his audience directly — Instagram and Substack, no newsroom, no editor — and by January 2026 said his subscription income broke even: a man who films confrontations for an audience that pays him to be there.[17]

In his January 2026 Columbia Journalism Review interview he described himself as “unshackled, unburdened, by some of the ethics” and said, plainly: “I’m compromised.” He advises his sources. He advocated for Mohammed Ibrahim, a Palestinian American teenager detained by Israel: “I want the kid to get out of prison” — adding that readers could judge whether he remained a reliable source. He stays exclusively in Palestinian homes while reporting.[17]

In April 2026 he told Current Affairs the West Bank is “the clearest expression of the Zionist project in its purest form,” called settler activity “systematic land theft” and “ethnic cleansing,” advocated ending all U.S. funding to Israel including Iron Dome, and said: “instinctively, I never trust what the Israeli authorities say.”[18]

In March 2026 he invited Representative Ro Khanna to take a Palestinian-led West Bank trip and connected Khanna’s team with village leaders; the Times attributed the trip’s organization to a Khanna staffer, and Tablet — after claiming he proposed entering a protected zone to harass settlers — issued a formal correction.[19] The author’s assessment: Khanna is a rabble-rouser who used an uncoordinated visit to inflame antisemitism by claiming mistreatment.[19]

The “agitator” critique in its defensible form: not that Nathaniel works for Hamas — no credible evidence supports that — but that his presence at flashpoints, his facilitation, his filming, and his framing are themselves interventions in the events he covers. In October 2025 he filmed Ariel Dahari assaulting Afaf Abu Alia near Turmus Ayya; Dahari was indicted on a terrorism charge, Senator Welch displayed the image at a hearing.[17] That footage is evidence of that assault, and his politics don’t unmake it. But a camera that captured Dahari does not validate the Abu Falah choreography. Each claim stands or falls on its own.

Part IV — Heidi Levine: Bias Wrapped In “Humanitarianism”

Levine’s credentials are real: Boston-born, in Israel since 1983, AP veteran, Sipa Press, inaugural 2015 Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism award, decades across the region’s wars.[22] None of it fixes her account — and her own words from the hospital bed fix her bias: “I don’t know how a parent can raise such monsters, really, honestly. They are Jewish terrorists, and they are giving everyone in the country a horrible reputation.”[23] The humanitarian’s vocabulary for the young men who beat her: monsters. Jewish terrorists.

Then the numbers, which never sit still. Ten minutes and “probably 50 times” in public.[11][12] “Several minutes” to Nathaniel.[10] “A few seconds” per the eyewitness on the ground.[13] Fifteen attackers in one telling; “at least 20 masked men” in another — against “at least five” visible in the beating footage.[11][14] Eighty settlers in the Quds montage; a handful on film.[15] An experienced photojournalist — who cannot tell time, cannot count attackers, and calls Jews who attack her “Jewish terrorists” while presenting herself as a neutral humanitarian.

And the embed: a 1.9-second clip appears to show her in a PRESS vest walking with the Palestinian group through the grove before the attack; the Quds frames show her moving with that group.[9][15] She told Nathaniel “she was running” when shoved down — running with whom, toward whom, is unexplained in every telling.[10] The victim at the center of the world’s outrage was moving with one side’s formation, filming its confrontation, and her account of what followed contradicts itself on duration, headcount, and — via her own star witness — nearly everything else.

Four parts, one conclusion. The timeline documents a mobilization before it documents an attack — masked men at 10:03, an Iranian-aligned outlet’s cameraman filming “clashes” at 10:19, convoys “since this morning” at 11:46 — and the shape of the morning is the shape of a staged provocation, potentially an Iran op, whether directed or merely documented from Tehran’s media orbit. The star witness contradicts himself eight ways and was a participant, not an observer. His history is open advocacy: “I’m compromised.” The victim calls her attackers “Jewish terrorists” and cannot keep her own numbers straight across two tellings. The timestamps do not support the story that was sold to the world. They dismantle it — post by post, part by part.
