Good morning. I want to talk to you about Adina Sash, also known as FlatbushGirl, who positions herself as an Orthodox feminist advocate for women in a difficult situation, even a horrible situation, of trying to get a Jewish divorce when their husband refuses. The problem with Adina is that she earns a living off of this plight.
Even if she earns nothing from a particular case, the marketing from her pro bono work benefits her overall business, which includes “open marriages.”
And she will do anything, even violate the Torah that she claims to follow, for the sake of her financial gain and her ego, her reputation, encouraging women to post sexual pictures of themselves to shock the community into supporting this cause. When I expressed discomfort at her tactics—let’s say discomfort is a very light word—Adina said I should be reported. She has adopted the tactics of the abusers, and she cannot admit that her campaign is fundamentally anti-Torah.
As a Jewish person, the Torah has primary importance, no matter what denomination you are. If someone comes forward and says to violate the Torah and they claim to be a Torah person, they are by definition a liar. Someone else called her out and she said, “We will do anything under United States law to get this get, not anything under the Torah.” Adina Sash has gone way too far, and there are human beings at the center of this dispute.
There is the husband and the wife and a life that they built together before Adina got involved and had a financial interest. For the sake of the family, for the sake of the Jewish community, we need to stop making Adina Sash the poster woman for women’s rights and come up with some more creative solutions that honor all the parties involved. And especially in this case, where the wife took the children under the pretext of a temporary emergency and made it permanent across international lines. If a man would do that to a woman, we would be up in arms. Look at what happened to Shulem Deen, who lost his children.
Think about it.
