It is illegal — and impractical — for NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani to pursue the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

As a sitting head of government, Netanyahu is protected by diplomatic immunity. The United States is not a signatory to the ICC, and federal law prevents local officials from enforcing such warrants. Any attempt to do so would overstep legal boundaries and misuse NYC resources.

What’s particularly striking is that Mamdani frequently invokes “international law” when it suits his narrative, yet appears to blatantly ignore it here — directing city resources toward this personal obsession instead of addressing New Yorkers’ real challenges like public safety, housing, education, and economic recovery.

This reflects a troubling pattern: prioritizing symbolic actions aimed at undermining Israel’s security over effective local governance.

New York deserves leadership grounded in the rule of law and focused on delivering results for residents — not political theater that distracts from the city’s pressing needs.

Local officials should respect constitutional limits and focus on the jobs they were elected to do.
